AIAS UC-Denver Membership Kickoff Meeting

AIAS UC DenverTuesday Aug 30th, room 440, 11:45-12:45

I hope everyone had a great summer.  Welcome back to all the returning students, and welcome to all those new to our school.  Here’s to a great year!

Just a reminder to all of you who have been AIAS members in the past that it is time to renew your membership, and to everyone else, I would urge you to join.  It only costs $67 a year and it is worth every cent.  Besides big discounts on subscriptions to professional magazines like Architect and discounts on books from Wiley, the most important thing is the access you get to the larger professional architecture community here in Colorado and beyond.  We on the AIAS board will continue to sponsor a wide variety of lectures this year by local architects and designers, as well as host tours and open-houses at firms around town.  In addition, as a member, you will be able to attend a wide variety of events sponsored by AIA at the deeply discounted student rate.  Take for example the upcoming Design Conference in mid-October being held up in Keystone.  Recently, Bjarke Ingels was the keynote speaker at the end of two days of great seminars, presentations, discussions and hanging out with fun and interesting people.   AIA basically takes a loss by offering students the two day conference rate of $80 (which includes admission, food, drinks and more), much less than the $295 professional members pay.

Our first meeting will be our membership kickoff meeting next Tuesday in room 440 from 11:45 to 12:45 (right before studio).  Lunch will be provided!  We will have much more to share on AIAS and opportunities to serve on a wide variety of sub-committees.  Also, coming up on Friday, Sept. 16, AIA is hosting a reception at their offices for all interested students.  Refreshments will be served and lots of great of stuff will be given away, including free AIAS memberships and tickets to the Design Conference.

For those who would like to join or those needing to renew, go to

aias.org

Simply click on the "Join AIAS" button at the top and select University of Colorado Denver as your chapter.

Otherwise, bring your laptop to next Tuesday’s meeting and sign up then.  (AIAS is no longer doing paper forms.)

Thanks for your time!  I’m looking forward to a fun and rewarding year!
