What is AIAS?
The American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) is a national, student run, non-profit organization of architecture students. It is an independent organization that seeks to enhance and broaden the architectural education of its membership.
The National Office of the AIAS describes its mission as the following:
- To promote the excellence in architectural education, training, and practice
- To foster an appreciation of architecture and related disciplines
- To enrich communities with a spirit of collaboration
- To organize students and combine their efforts to advance the art and science of architecture
What is AIAS UC-Denver?
AIAS UC-Denver is the local chapter of the AIAS, serving the University of Colorado at Denver.
The AIAS UC-Denver Chapter strives to enhance the educational experience of its members and the student body at large through Chapter sponsored events that are informative and educational. The AIAS UC-Denver Chapter shall strive to prepare its members for their professional careers through its cooperative relationship with local American Institute of Architects (AIA) Chapters. The AIAS shall serve as a means of social interaction where members can communicate and debate issues pertaining to design and architecture. The AIAS shall serve the Denver community through volunteer outreach programs.
What happens with my dues?
In order to remain a viable and successful chapter of the AIAS, member dues are required. A majority of the annual dues go to the National Office. It is with this money that the National Office is able to offer continued support and resources to the members. The remainder of the dues goes to running our chapter here in Denver.
AIAS Chapter dues contribute to:
- Hosting AIA Colorado Board of Directors Meeting once per semester
- An engaging lunchtime lecture series
- Annual Young Architects Awards Gala
- AIA Colorado Student Affiliate membership
- If an AIAS member in your final year at UC Denver, you will receive one year free Associate AIA membership from AIA Colorado.

- AIA Colorado Student Affiliate Membership – Become connected to local AIA events, receive AIA email and newsletters and creates potential job opportunities if you attend AIA events
